How to use image cropping
Upload your image by clicking the upload area or dragging the file directly onto it. The tool accepts the most common formats: JPG, PNG, and WebP. As soon as the image appears in the editor, you can start selecting right away.
Choose between three modes: Rectangle, Ellipse, or Freeform. In rectangle mode, click and drag to create a selection box — ideal for crops with fixed ratios, like square for Instagram or 16:9 for YouTube. In ellipse mode, click and drag to create an oval selection; use the handles on the 8 points to fine-tune the size — perfect for isolating faces, circular logos, or rounded objects. In freeform mode, click each point of the outline you want to trace and close the polygon by clicking near the starting point.
With an active selection, three actions become available: Erase Selection removes the marked area and fills it with transparency (useful for removing unwanted elements); Cut keeps only the selected area and discards the rest; and Cancel undoes the current outline without changing the image. The Undo button reverts the last applied operation.
Once the result is ready, click Download PNG to save the file. PNG was chosen because it preserves the transparency created in freeform crops. All processing happens in your browser — no image is sent to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image sent to any server?
No. All processing happens directly in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Which image formats are supported?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP. Downloads are always in PNG to preserve quality and transparency in freeform crops.
What's the difference between rectangle, ellipse, and freeform crop?
Rectangle crop selects a square or rectangular area by dragging the mouse. Ellipse crop creates an oval selection with resize handles on 8 points — ideal for isolating faces or circular objects. Freeform crop (polygon) lets you click point by point to create an outline of any irregular shape.
How do I use the ellipse crop to isolate a face or circular object?
Enable "Ellipse" mode, then click and drag over the desired area. Use the handles on the 8 selection points to fine-tune the size. Then click "Cut" to keep only the elliptical area with a transparent background, or "Erase" to remove the selected area. The result is saved as PNG to preserve transparency.
How do I use freeform crop to remove the background from part of an image?
Enable "Freeform" mode, click along the outline of the desired object, and close the polygon by clicking near the first point. Then use "Erase Selection" to remove the selected area, making it transparent, and download the resulting PNG. To keep only the object, use "Cut" — the result will have a transparent background outside the polygon.
Can I use this tool to prepare images for social media?
Yes. Rectangle crop is ideal for adjusting specific aspect ratios — for example, square (1:1) for Instagram, 16:9 for YouTube covers, or 4:5 for the Instagram feed. Just select the desired area, click "Cut," and download the resulting PNG.
Can I undo a crop after applying it?
Yes. The "Undo" button restores the image's previous state for all operations: erase selection, cut, and cancel selection. The history keeps track of the most recent steps taken during the session.
