How to use the image blur tool

Upload the image by dragging the file onto the marked area or clicking to select it from your device. The tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP, and loads the preview instantly on the canvas without sending any data to external servers.

Choose between two blur modes. Whole image mode applies the Gaussian effect to the entire photo with one click — ideal for creating blurred backgrounds or protecting an image's full content. Brush mode lets you paint only over the regions you want: run your cursor (or finger on mobile) over faces, license plates, ID numbers, addresses, or any sensitive area that needs hiding.

Use the Intensity slider to set the blur strength, from 1px (light, purely stylistic) to 20px (completely unrecognizable). To safely hide confidential data, use an intensity above 15px. Once adjusted, click Apply blur to process the image, then Download to save the result as JPG or PNG to your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server when blurring?
No. All processing happens directly in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
Which image formats are supported for blurring?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. The result can be downloaded as PNG (preserves transparency) or JPG.
How do I blur just the face in a photo before posting on social media?
Use the "Blur brush" mode: adjust the brush size to cover the face and paint over the desired region. The blur is applied only where you paint. For Instagram and Facebook, download as JPG at maximum quality after applying the blur. The effect is permanent in the exported file, guaranteeing privacy even if the image is saved by someone else.
What blur intensity should I use to hide sensitive data like an ID number or license plate?
To make text and numbers unrecoverable, use an intensity above 15px. Values between 5 and 10px create a stylistic effect but may still allow partial reading of characters in high-resolution photos. For real privacy, use maximum intensity (20px) over the area with confidential data.
Can I use full blur to create a bokeh effect in photos?
Yes. "Whole image" mode with low intensity (2–5px) simulates a soft blur similar to photographic bokeh. For a more realistic result, blur the original image and combine it with the Remove Background tool: remove the background, blur it separately, and recompose the image in your preferred editor.
Does blurring affect the size of the final file?
The Gaussian blur applied by the tool doesn't increase file size. In some cases, blurred areas have less detail and can be compressed more efficiently by the JPEG codec, resulting in slightly smaller files. The image's original dimensions are always preserved.
