How to use the Image Pixelator

Upload your image by clicking the indicated area or dragging the file directly onto it. The tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and static GIF formats. All processing happens in your own browser — no file is sent to external servers, ensuring full privacy.

Once the image is loaded, you'll see two modes at the top of the editor: Select area and Whole image. In selection mode, position the cursor over the image, click and drag to draw a rectangle over the region you want to censor. A green border marks the selected area. Then click Pixelate Selection to apply the effect. You can repeat this process as many times as you like, pixelating different regions before downloading the final result.

Before applying, adjust the Intensity control: lower values produce a subtler effect with small blocks; higher values create large, clearly visible pixels, ideal for more definitive censoring. Try different intensities on each area as needed.

If you want to undo the last action, use the Undo button — it works precisely, reverting exactly one step per click. If you'd rather start over, the Reset button restores the image to its original state. Once you're happy with the result, click Download and choose the output format: PNG (no quality loss), JPG (smaller file size), or WebP (best balance of quality and compression). The downloaded file will keep the original image name followed by "pixelated."

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens directly in your browser. No file is sent to external servers.
Can I pixelate several areas in the same image?
Yes. Just drag to select an area and click "Pixelate Selection." You can repeat the process as many times as you want before downloading — ideal for censoring multiple faces, different fields on a document, or several license plates in the same photo.
How do I control the pixel effect intensity?
Use the "Intensity" control before applying the effect. Higher values create larger, more visible pixels — recommended for reliably censoring faces and sensitive data. Lower values produce a subtler effect, suitable for aesthetic blurring or when partial legibility is acceptable.
Which image formats are supported?
The tool accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, and static GIF. The download is in PNG format to preserve maximum quality of the resulting image, regardless of the original format uploaded.
