サムネイルは、2つのサイズで同時に成立しなければならない唯一の画像です。モニターで見るYouTubeのトップでは大きく、スマホの関連動画一覧では極小で表示されます。ここを無視した画像は、技術的にどれだけ美しくても、クリックを1件も生まないことがあります。

この記事では、チャンネルのジャンル別に50本のプロンプトを用意しました。IT、チュートリアル、ゲーム、投資、Vlog、フィットネス、料理、教育、エンタメです。すべて同じ考え方でできています。片側に強い視覚要素、もう片側に文字用の余白、強いコントラスト、そして縮小すると消える細かい描き込みは入れないこと。

はじめに断っておくと、これらのプロンプトはサムネイルの ビジュアルの土台 を作るためのもので、文字は入りません。理由は後述しますが、要するに文字はあとから載せたほうが制御しやすく、結果もよくなるからです。プロンプト全般の組み立て方については、 AIプロンプトの書き方ガイド に全体の構成をまとめてあります。

サムネイルのプロンプトが特殊な理由

多くのプロンプト集は、サムネイルをただの画像として扱っています。そうではありません。4つの制約がすべてを変えます。

縮小時の可読性。 再生の多くは小さな画面から来ます。そこではサムネイルが数センチ幅で表示されます。この時点で、要素の多い構図、細かい質感、複雑な情景は使えなくなります。よいサムネイルは、視線を集める点が多くても2つです。

文字を置く余白。 機能しているサムネイルには、ほぼ必ず言葉が入っています。四隅まで絵で埋まっていると、文字が息をする場所が残りません。だから以下のプロンプトは、すべて画面の半分か3分の1を空けるよう指定しています。

強いコントラスト。 中間調で均一な画像は、他のサムネイルに埋もれて消えます。彩度の高い色、無地の背景、被写体と背景のはっきりした分離。並んだ一覧の中で目立つのは、この3つを備えたものです。

再生時間の表示。 動画の長さはサムネイルの右下に重なって表示されます。そこに重要な要素を置けば、部分的に隠れてしまいます。

💡 必ずやるべき確認： サムネイルを幅200ピクセルほどに縮め、スマホの画面で見てください。1秒以内に何の動画か分からないなら、まだ完成していません。

不意を突かれやすいのが2MBの上限です。高解像度のAI画像は軽く超えてしまい、YouTubeはアップロードをそのまま拒否します。 圧縮 を使えば、見た目を変えずに数秒で収まります。

サムネイルのプロンプトの構成

50本すべてが同じ5ブロックでできています。最初のひとつを差し替えるだけで、サムネイルとして成立する条件を保ったまま別案になります。

1. 主役

人、物、情景のいずれかひとつ。3つ全部は入れません。主役は縮小しても判別できる必要があるので、大きく分かりやすい形にします。

2. 配置と余白

主役をどこに置き、どこを空けるか。filling the right half, left side clean が最も使われる型です。視線が左から始まるためです。

3. 背景とコントラスト

無地、単純なグラデーション、またはぼかした情景。描き込んだ背景は使いません。狙いは、主役をはっきり切り離すことです。

4. 配色

彩度の高い色を2〜3色。青とオレンジ、紫と黄、赤とシアンといった補色の組み合わせのほうが、おとなしい調和的な配色よりYouTubeの一覧で目立ちます。

5. 形式

必ず horizontal 16:9 composition, high contrast, YouTube thumbnail で締めます。生成の時点で正しい画角を確保するためです。

大きな製品、暗い背景、色のついた光。このジャンルの定石であり、実際に機能します。極小でも物が判別できるからです。

文字をAIに書かせない理由

画像モデルの文字表現は大きく改善し、いまではサムネイルの中にタイトルを入れさせることも十分可能です。それでも、文字はあとから載せたほうがよい理由が3つあります。

サイズを自分で決められる。 サムネイルの文字は、とにかく大きくする必要があります。ふつうは高さの4分の1以上を占めます。AIは「見た目が整う」大きさで文字を置きがちで、縮小して読めるかどうかでは判断しません。

A/Bテストができる。 画像はそのままにタイトルだけ差し替えるのは、チャンネル運営で最もよく行う改善です。文字が生成に埋め込まれていると、案を変えるたびに全部作り直しになります。

チャンネルの統一感。 同じ書体、同じ色、同じ位置を使い続けることで、見覚えが生まれます。AIは生成のたびに書体を変えてしまいます。

実際の手順は、上のプロンプトでビジュアルの土台を生成し、そのあとに テキスト追加で書体、サイズ、位置を自分で決めることです。最初から正しい形式でサムネイル全体を組みたいなら、 YouTubeサムネイル が1ステップで済ませてくれます。

サムネイル用のネガティブプロンプト

特に効くのが2つあります。ひとつは elements in the lower right corner。再生時間が重なる位置だからです。もうひとつは low contrast。一覧の中で消えてしまうサムネイルの大半は、これが原因です。

クリック率を殺す7つの失敗

  1. 画面を埋めつくす。 余白がなければ文字の置き場がなくなり、画像はただのノイズになります。
  2. 細かく描き込む。 質感、模様、小さな物は、縮小すると消えます。
  3. コントラストが弱い。 均一な中間調は、彩度の高いサムネイルに囲まれると埋もれます。
  4. 重要な要素を右下に置く。 再生時間の表示に隠されます。
  5. 文字が小さい。 幅200ピクセルで読めないなら、使いものになりません。
  6. ファイルが2MBを超える。 YouTubeがアップロードを拒否します。
  7. 見た目に統一感がない。 毎回書体と色が違うと、一覧の中で自分のチャンネルだと気づいてもらえません。

生成した画像を公開できる形にする

4つの手順で完了します。

1280×720に合わせる。 生成物がぴったりこの寸法で出ることは、まずありません。 サイズ変更 で調整でき、比率が16:9でない場合は、引き伸ばすより 画像の切り抜き を使うほうが画質を保てます。

文字を載せる。 テキスト追加 を使い、大きな書体に縁取りか影をつけて、どんな背景の上でも読めるようにします。

必要なら要素を切り抜く。 顔や物を別の背景に載せたい場合は、 背景を削除 で透過PNGにできます。

最後に圧縮する。 2MB以内に収めるには 圧縮を使ってください。これは必ず最後、サイズ変更のあとに行います。

💡 正しい順序： 生成 → 1280×720に切り抜き・サイズ変更 → 文字を載せる → 圧縮。サイズ変更より先に圧縮すると、画質を無駄に捨てることになります。

よくある質問

YouTubeサムネイルの正しいサイズは？
推奨解像度は1280×720ピクセル、比率は16:9、最小の幅は640ピクセルです。ファイルは2MB未満である必要があり、形式はJPG、PNG、GIFが使えます。あとから切り抜くより、最初から16:9で生成するほうが得策です。切り抜きはたいてい構図を悪い位置で断ち切り、解像度も無駄にします。
プロンプトで文字も一緒に入れてもらえますか？
できますし、現行のモデルは1年前よりずっと正確に文字を書きます。それでもサムネイルでは、あとから載せるほうが得です。AIが選びがちな大きさよりずっと大きくしたい文字サイズを自分で決められますし、画像を作り直さずにタイトル案を試せますし、全動画で書体をそろえられます。書体がそろっていると、一覧の中で自分のチャンネルだと気づいてもらいやすくなります。
AIで作ったサムネイルは表示回数に不利ですか？
サムネイルにAI画像を使うことへのペナルティはありません。アルゴリズムが見ているのは成績、つまりクリック率と視聴維持率です。本当のリスクは間接的なものです。動画が果たせない約束をするサムネイルは、クリックのあとすぐ離脱される結果を招き、それが表示回数を下げます。内容を正しく表しているAI画像なら、不利になる点はまったくありません。
PCではよく見えるのに、スマホだと見栄えがしないのはなぜですか？
スマホでは、ごく一部の大きさでしか表示されないからです。大画面では映える細かい描き込み、質感、中くらいの文字は、そこでは単純に消えます。対策は、視線を集める点を2つまでに絞り、主役と背景のコントラストを強くし、公開前に必ず幅200ピクセルほどに縮めて確認することです。
サムネイルに顔を入れるべきですか？
はっきりした表情の顔は注意を引きやすく、Vlog、リアクション、エンタメでは特に効きます。ただし万能の法則ではありません。IT、料理、教育のチャンネルでは、物や成果物を主役にしたほうが伸びることがよくあります。判断基準は、縮小した状態で内容を最も速く伝えられるのはどちらか、です。動画の主題が製品なら、たいてい顔より製品のほうが売れます。
ファイルが2MBを超えてしまいました。どうすればいいですか？
アップロード前に圧縮してください。ただし手順の最後に行うことです。画質を最も保てる順序は、まず1280×720にサイズ変更し、文字を載せ、それから圧縮する、という流れです。透過のない画像ならPNGからJPGへの変換も大きく効きます。サムネイルの大半がこれに当てはまります。
